UAW Local 551 members join Local 685 members at the gates of Indiana Transmission Plant in Kokomo, spreading information about how to fight for our jobs.

Last week, Stellantis doubled down on attacking our jobs. The company announced plans to cut a shift at Toledo Assembly and eliminate hundreds of our jobs across the company by putting more work on fewer people.

We received an update from UAW Stellantis Department Director Kevin Gotinsky on Thursday that includes the following information:

  • There is no chance of a strike during the holidays,” but we should expect more strike authorization votes in early 2025.
  • “The company recently told investors that ‘Inventory reduction in the United States is running at a faster rate than expected’ and that they had reached a reduction of 100,000 vehicles ahead of their November deadline. Inventory going down means they will need you to build cars in 2025. That means we will have more leverage to enforce our contract.”
  • We are not backing down from our grievances over Stellantis’s blatant violations of their contractual commitments regarding Belvidere and the Dodge Durango. Using the tools we won in our 2023 contract, we can hit the company where it hurts.
  • The UAW International leadership is continuing to visit locals and meet with the members who are affected. Yesterday, President Shawn Fain and Stellantis Department Director Kevin Gotinsky visited Local 1700 in Sterling Heights. Tomorrow, they will visit Local 12 in Toledo at 2:00pm and 5:00pm.

We will need to stand united. Every plant experiencing layoffs will be hit harder if the company is allowed to backtrack on their commitments in Belvidere and JNAP. And remember, if Stellantis gets away with violating these commitments, any of our products could be next.

The coming weeks are our chance to ask questions, spread information, and build unity. That’s why UAWD is supporting Stellantis members to step up and get the membership’s pressing questions answered. We can send you flyers with answers to frequently asked questions about the strike vote. You can also request “Strike Ready” stickers to build solidarity in your plant.
