Unite All Workers for Democracy stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and condemns the brutalization, victimization, and killing of black men and women at the hands of law enforcement and white supremacists.

George Floyd’s murder by four Minneapolis police officers is just the latest tragedy to shed light on the systemic racism that is prevalent through-out our entire criminal justice system. Floyd’s murder was caught on camera in broad daylight. Our hearts ached and our stomachs were sickened to hear George Floyd begging for the comfort of his mother as his spirit was choked from his body for eight minutes and forty-six excruciating seconds by the knee of a sadistic police officer.

Floyd was killed by the very men who had sworn to protect his life. Justice must be served, and we fully demand these officers be held accountable.

Unfortunately, George Floyd is just one of many black lives taken by police officers acting as judge, jury, and executioner on our city streets. We say the names of these victims not only so we do not forget, but also as a reminder of their humanity. Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Philando Castile and the countless other black lives unjustly taken much too soon.

We join with our Brothers and Sisters around the United States and the world who are supporting the demands for justice. What this moment makes abundantly clear is that only an unstoppable movement of people standing together in solidarity will finally compel our politicians to act on long neglected issues of equality and accountability.

Unite All Workers for Democracy stands with the families and the communities affected by these senseless, tragic killings. We further commit to advocating for Black Lives Matter and we are prepared to fight — in solidarity — alongside them to victory by any means necessary.

In Solidarity,
