National Slate of Reformers to Face Off Against Corrupt 70-Year Incumbent Leadership
UAW Members United and Unite All Workers for Democracy (UAWD) issues the following joint statement regarding the upcoming election of the UAW International Executive Board:
Detroit, Michigan – Rocked by unprecedented corruption over the last seven years and faced with a dramatic conversion in the auto industry to electric vehicles, among other serious issues, the UAW membership is on the brink of one of the most decisive moments in the organization’s 87-year history.
Today, ballots will be mailed to one million UAW members in the first ever, union-wide election of International Executive Board officers. All ballots must be returned to the designated facility by mail on November 28, 2022. The UAW membership decided through a referendum vote in the Fall of 2021 to directly elect the top officers of its union.
UAW members face a stark choice: They can elect the UAW Members United slate of new officers, led by Shawn Fain, who vow to return the UAW to its militant roots and to fight the Big Three auto companies when contracts expire in 2023. Or they can preserve the decades-long status quo of corruption, two-tier contracts, and concessions by handing power back to Ray Curry’s 70-year incumbent Administration Caucus slate.
“UAW Members United will take the UAW back in the direction of representing the interests of its members. This means that we will not be afraid to fight for our jobs, and to fight to end tiers and restore COLA and pensions for all. We won’t hesitate to serve notice to the companies and strategically hit them where it hurts,” says Shawn Fain, candidate for UAW President on the UAW Members United slate.
“The Curry Solidarity Team cares more about the companies than the membership,” says Fain. “They’re only offering the membership the same, old, 40-year program of concessions, corruption, and a disastrous economic future for them and their families.”
The tabulation of votes will commence on November 29, 2022, one day after the deadline for submission of ballots on November 28, 2022. The swearing into office of the successful candidates will occur on a date to be determined in December, 2022 unless runoff elections are needed to determine the winners.
