About 80 Deere & Co. workers at the farm and construction equipment manufacturing company’s Davenport plant have learned their jobs are no longer on the chopping block.
Deere, based in Moline, Illinois, had informed the 82 workers on June 29 that they would be laid off indefinitely in early August. But last week, the company told them their jobs were no longer slated to be cut.
Deere said Tuesday, however, that it will continue with its plans to cut 35 workers at the company’s Waterloo foundry, also effective in early August.
The company last month notified Iowa Workforce Development of the planned layoffs, saying they would take place Aug. 2 in Davenport and Aug. 3 in Waterloo.
