After winning One Member One Vote last year, 2022 could bring democracy and member-power to the UAW! But the reality is that change will only happen if we make it happen ourselves.

The UAW Constitutional Convention (July 25-29, 2022) and direct elections for International Executive Board officers are coming up in 2022. These are two major opportunities to change the direction of our union.

But here’s a secret: delegates will still vote on Constitutional Amendments and could play a very important role in nominating IEB candidates, depending on the new rules.

Because delegates are still so important, now is the time to start assembling a slate of pro-reform delegates to run in your local. There are two basic steps every UAW member can take to make this happen:

1. Arm yourself with knowledge. Do you know who your local’s delegates were to the 2018 Constitutional Convention? Do you know if they’re planning to run again in 2022? You can use this new database built by UAWD to look up all the delegates from the 2018 Convention by local or by name. Share it with your coworkers using this link: https://bit.ly/uaw-2018-delegates

2. Get involved with UAWD to elect pro-reform delegates. Want to meet with other UAW activists who are organizing to elect reform delegates? Or maybe you want to make calls to help recruit delegate candidates or organizers? You can sign up for both here.

Did you know that UAWD members write, debate, and vote on our strategy and platform? All UAWD members are invited to attend our Membership Meeting on January 30, 2022, at 2pm ET. Please RSVP for the meeting here. You can submit resolutions by clicking this link. If you’re not a UAWD member, join today so you can participate at: https://uawd.org/join/
