Stellantis committed in our 2023 contracts to invest $19 billion in our plants. Now, they’re going back on their commitments, including their promise to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois. We’ve seen this before. Over the past 20 years, the Big 3 automakers have closed or sold 65 factories. This time, the UAW is gearing up to do something we have never done before: strike to save jobs.
Backtracking on commitments to reopen Belvidere and build the Durango in Detroit would impact UAW members across Stellantis. That’s why we’re bringing together members who are facing an indefinite layoff from the Toledo Assembly Complex, staring down uncertainty at the Detroit Assembly Complex on Jefferson, and rallying members of their local to stand together against the company’s dividing tactics.
