Over the past three weeks of the Student Workers of Columbia-United Auto Workers strike, faculty members have mobilized to support the demands of striking student workers.


To stand in solidarity with the SWC-UAW and avoid crossing the picket line, some faculty members have moved classes off campus or online, which has posed challenges to their ability to teach successfully.

“Columbia is behind other universities, particularly over the last week,” said one faculty member. “There’s a tentative agreement at Harvard. The University of California system also reached a tentative agreement with its lecturers. … Columbia should not be lagging, it should be leading around these questions.”
