A federal judge on Monday ruled employees of the maker of Jeep and Ram vehicles are not entitled to restitution following a years-long bribery scandal involving the United Auto Workers.
Judge Paul Borman of the Eastern District of Michigan concluded the 234 current and former employees petitioning the court were not directly harmed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV executives paying $3.5 million in bribes to union leaders over a period of time that included rounds of labor negotiations. The decision upholds the January settlement between the Italian-American automaker, which is now a part of Stellantis NV, and the U.S. government.
