We’re launching a UAWD Organizing committee to prepare for a Big 3 contract campaign! The dedication of rank-and-file workers like you has been crucial to electing 6 of the 7 Members United candidates so far. As we wait on the final results of the Presidential election, it’s time to start thinking about what comes next. We’re launching an Organizing Committee, whose first task will be building democratic, militant contract campaigns in Big 3 Locals together over the next six months!
The Organizing Committee has three main goals:
-
Organize new members into UAWD from all sectors of the UAW, with an emphasis on recruiting more auto workers
-
Create and maintain an ongoing organizing effort that involves a large number of UAWD members, focused on building power through organizing coworkers at their Locals
-
Develop, through a shared organizing space, a collective UAWD political consciousness relating to members’ material conditions, to build support for a striking, militant UAW.
If you’re a Big 3 worker: The Organizing Committee is here to support you in leading a contract campaign. This means talking with coworkers about what we want to see in our next contract and getting strike-ready! We hope that the Organizing Committee will be a space where auto workers will take the lead in steering support for local organizers.
If you’re a worker in a non-auto sector: Are you ready to work hard to support this auto-worker-led initiative? You’re also welcome! We’ll need all hands on deck to build up rank-and-file leadership for the contract campaign and, through this process, grow UAWD and develop solidarity, democracy, and militancy across the UAW.
Are you in? Join us Tuesday, March 14, @ 7:30 ET (6:30pm CT) for the launch of the UAWD Organizing Committee! Tell us about your interest and availability using the Organizing Committee Interest Form below, and an organizer will be in touch!
In solidarity,
Organizing Committee Co-Chairs
