This resolution was passed at the 2024 March Membership Meeting.
Whereas UAWD made major inroads towards progressive change at the 2022 Constitutional and Bargaining Conventions and,
Whereas this was accomplished in spite of not having a majority of UAWD delegates at the conventions and,
Whereas we expect to have critical convention committee assignments such as resolutions, rules, constitution etc. committee assignments at the 2026 Constitutional Convention and,
Whereas there are significant improvements still needed to continue our work of improving democracy, transparency and accountability to the UAW membership.
Therefore be it resolved that UAWD will create the following temporary committees to begin building our effectiveness at the 2026 UAW Constitutional Convention and beyond:
- Delegate recruitment committee
- To be tasked with finding and training potential UAWD members and reform minded allies to successfully run for delegates to the 2026 Constitutional Convention.
- Constitutional amendments and Convention Rules committee
- To be tasked with researching Convention Rules and the UAW Constitution to develop proposals to improve democracy, transparency and accountability within the Convention rules and the UAW Constitution.
- Resolutions Committee
- To be tasked with developing proposed resolutions that can better guide the International Union between conventions about the political course of our union should be pursuing.
- Convention logistics Committee
- To be tasked with procuring necessary accommodations for our activities and meetings at the 2026 Constitutional Convention.
Be it further resolved that the co-chairs for these temporary committees will be assigned by a vote of the UAWD Steering Committee to members who have shown interest and ability for these tasks.
Be it further resolved that the names and contact information of UAWD members interested in being members of these committees will be provided to committee.
