Democracy Working Group

Resolution Authors: Scott Houldieson (551), Alex Bruns-Smith (2320), Derryl Woodberry (882), Nick Livick (31), Ben Hinsey (12)

Whereas; UAWD is committed to member democracy and believes our membership should determine the strategic direction of our caucus

Whereas; UAWD business meetings have been contentious, typically go over time, and have seen decreasing participation .

Whereas; broad participation is a cornerstone of democracy and long business meetings are inaccessible for many parents and those working on the line with limited time off

Whereas; proposed solutions to these challenges have diverged widely, with some wanting more meetings, some wanting fewer , and some wanting more meetings conducted differently

Whereas; the Steering Committee is also reflective of this disagreement

Therefore be it resolved; UAWD shall establish a temporary democracy working group to study the issue. This working group shall be split evenly by rank and file members on both sides of the issue spectrum.

Be it further resolved; the goal of this committee shall be to present actionable solutions to the Steering Committee or to the broader membership.
