Resolution: Steering Committee Meeting Transparency

Submitted by Nolan Tabb, Navruz Baum, Dawnya Ferdinandsen, Ben Smith, Judy Wraight, Mike Cannon

Whereas, the UAWD Steering Committee meets biweekly and, between quarterly membership meetings, decides which campaigns we prioritize, how staff time is allocated, how we engage with our endorsed IEB members, and other consequential issues.

Whereas, the UAWD Steering Committee is elected by, serves, and should be accountable to the UAWD membership which is “the highest authority of UAWD,”

Whereas, the UAWD Steering committee currently operates in closed-door meetings with motions that never see the light of day,

Therefore be it resolved,

  1. Motions and vote results and summaries of discussion topics for all Steering Committee meetings shall be recorded by the Recording Secretary and shall be available to the UAWD membership.
  2. These minutes and votes shall be recorded in a restricted Google Doc, made available in all UAWD forums, with access granted to any member who requests to view the document.
  3. The Steering Committee may pass a motion for “executive session” as provided for by Roberts’ Rules only when necessary where portions of minutes on a sensitive topic should not be published. This motion may be passed contemporaneously or retroactively. The reason for doing so shall be recorded as part of any motion to enter executive session.
