The following resolution passed at the UAWD Membership Meeting held on December 11, 2022.
Whereas:
UAWD has not made strike preparation one of its top headline demands during the recent IEB election. There are some good reasons for this. The Administration Caucus has demobilized the membership so that striking for contract demands is not necessarily very popular among autoworkers. It takes an auto contract year to focus on the need for a strike.
2023 is an auto contract year. We know that demands we have emphasized, such as restoring pensions for new-hire autoworkers, cannot be won without strike action.
The recent increase in strike activity in the US, including by John Deere and academic workers, comes at a good time to help popularize strike preparation for the contract year.
Therefore:
During the coming year after the conclusion of the runoff, UAWD will make strike preparation one of its top three slogans and topics for discussion internally and in our literature.
