A layoff affecting dozens of hourly workers at Saginaw Metal Casting Operations plant, which makes engine blocks for General Motors, took effect Friday, April 30.


Tony Mann, president of UAW Local 668, which represents hundreds of GM workers at the Saginaw plant, confirmed the news Friday.


“The third shift for our High Feature V6 product line is being eliminated,” Mann said. “The reasoning is for the 20% reduction in volume of the High Feature V6 head and (engine) block … because of the switchover to the four-cylinder engine.”
