Below is a summary of UAWD’s Membership Meeting on January 19, 2025.
Members presented and spoke about tabling at a Reverend Martin Luther King Junior Day event in Detroit, two in-person trainings UAWD is holding in Toledo and Chicago, and UAWD’s upcoming Leadership Training Series scheduled to begin in February 2025. Two UAWD members at Stellantis reported back on the Stellantis Keep the Promise campaign. The UAWD Organizing Committee gave an update on the 2028 General Strike Subcommittee. Finally, members gave feedback on the first UAWD Convention in 2024 in Detroit and discussed plans for the next UAWD Convention.
Members presented a proposed bylaws amendment for consideration at the next quarterly UAWD Membership Meeting. The bylaws amendment will be shared with the UAWD membership.
Four resolutions were passed by the membership as part of the omnibus resolution: UAWD Continued Solidarity with the Courageous 13 Year Struggle by Injured Ex-GM Workers of Colombia, Labor Party Resolution, Oppose Deportations: An Injury To One Is An Injury To All, and An Injury To One Is An Injury To All – Stand With Immigrant Workers.
Three additional resolutions, Steering Committee Meeting Accessibility, Staff Guidelines for Engagement in a Member Led Democratic UAWD, and Calling on Our UAWD IEB Members to Educate Weapons Manufacturing Workers About a Just Transition to a Peace Economy and the Power of an Arms Embargo also passed.
