This morning, UAWD delegates supported bringing one of our priority resolutions out of committee for debate: Resolution on Effective Membership Strike Preparation.

In sum, the resolution states that to win the demands we’re calling for, it’s imperative to launch a sweeping campaign to prepare our membership to strike by forming rank-and-file Strike Preparation Committees at each Local.

However, the resolutions committee report mentioned the word “strike” in reference to UAW members only twice (on pages 40 and 44).

Scott Houldieson, Chair of UAWD’s Steering Committee, made the point of order to pull the strike preparation resolution onto the floor for debate.

Despite the support of all UAWD delegates, the resolution fell just ten delegates short of meeting the threshold to pull the resolution out of committee.

UAWD is committed to building strong contract campaigns, including strike preparation. Join our Organizing Committee to get involved, and check back at UAWD Convention HQ at uawd.org/convention2023 for more updates during Convention week.
