A federal judge sentenced a former United Auto Workers Local 12 chairman to a term of probation after the union member claimed he was not acting maliciously when he improperly asked the union to pay him more than $8,000 for work he did while on his employer’s clock.


Rather, Douglas Dye, a former electrician at KUKA Toledo Production Operations, claimed he didn’t fully know how a lost-time policy worked when he served as bargaining agent for the auto-parts supplier. KUKA is represented by UAW Local 12.
