The following resolution passed at the UAWD Special Membership Meeting on the Tentative Agreement at Ford held on November 1, 2023.

Whereas UAWD has engaged in a multiyear effort to put the UAW back in the hands of our great union’s membership and,

Whereas UAW members engaged in a historic Stand Up Strike that pitted company executives against one another to prevent escalation of our strike against their profits and,

Whereas UAWD has taken the lead in this struggle fighting to win One Member One Vote then forcing democracy on the UAW Constitutional and Bargaining Conventions and electing the UAW Members United slate to the International Executive Board and,

Whereas in a fight where we have unequal resources UAW members have won record gains from greedy corporations by engaging UAW members and the working class as a whole in the most transparent contract negotiation in our unions storied history and,

Whereas the historic Sit-down Strikes, that captured the imagination of the world in the 1930’s, won little more than recognition of the UAW as the collective bargaining agent for select autoworkers at GM and Chrysler and,

Whereas there is not consensus within our own caucus let alone among UAW members more broadly on the current Tentative Agreements.

Therefore be it resolved that UAWD, as a caucus, will educate UAW members on the content of the current Tentative Agreements between the UAW and the Detroit Three Automakers in a dispassionate and accurate way.

Be it also resolved that UAWD recognizes and celebrates the record gains made in this agreement.

To create a space where members are comfortable to engage in discussion and debate about the merits of the agreements UAWD will remain neutral as a caucus encouraging neither a yes or a no vote on the Tentative Agreements.

This in no way infringes on the rights of individual members of UAWD to advocate on either side of the Tentative Agreements with their coworkers.

UAWD officially stands on the side of democracy as UAW members vote on their Tentative Agreements with the Detroit Three Automakers.
