The first-ever UAWD Convention will take place September 27-29 in Southfield, Michigan at the Westin Hotel (Directions). There’s still time to register! Today is the last day to receive the $50 off Early Bird discount.
After much discussion, the Steering Committee would like to share the following timeline for the UAWD Annual National Meeting. Please note that the meeting will be conducted across two dates. The Steering Committee was concerned with the complexity of conducting business democratically in a hybrid (online and in-person) meeting, during our already complex convention.
UAWD Steering Committee Elections
The Steering Committee elections will be held Saturday September 28, during the convention’s General Session that begins at 3:30 pm ET. Only those in attendance, either in-person at the convention or online via Zoom, will receive a ballot (via email, from OpaVote). Our bylaws require using ranked-choice voting with an instant runoff system.
Nominations for the Steering Committee must be submitted by email to [email protected] by 11:59 pm ET on Saturday, September 14. Only UAWD members in good standing may submit a nomination or be nominated. Each nominee will be contacted via email on Sunday, September 15, to be asked if they accept or decline their nomination. Nominees wishing to accept their nomination will have until 11:59 pm ET on Tuesday, September 17, to respond by email accepting their nomination.
Nominations will be accepted for the following positions:
- Chairperson (currently held by Scott Houldieson, UAW Local 551)
- Recording Secretary (currently held by Vail Kohnert-Yount UAW Local 2320)
- Retiree Representative (currently held by Martha Grevatt, UAW Local 869)
- Retiree Representative (currently held by Michael Cannon, UAW Local 282)
- Trustee (currently held by Nicholas Livick, UAW Local 31)
- Member at Large (currently held by Benjamin Hinsey, UAW Local 12)
