Below is a summary of UAWD’s Membership Meeting on March 3, 2024.

The UAWD Steering Committee announced the first ever UAWD Convention in Detroit from September 27 to 29, 2024. UAW President Shawn Fain and many other UAW members and leaders will be speaking, and all UAWD members are invited to attend. Members can register here.

Members presented and spoke about organizing efforts including post-contract issues in the Big Three, Local 7902’s upcoming strike deadline at the New School, and Local 2320’s ongoing strike at Mobilization for Justice. The Organizing Committee, International Solidarity Committee, Electric Vehicle Committee, Palestine Solidarity and Peace Economy Committee, and Diversity Committee delivered reports. The Steering Committee also reported back on a goal-setting retreat.

Members presented proposed bylaws amendments for consideration at the next quarterly UAWD Membership Meeting. These proposed bylaws amendments will be shared with the UAWD membership. A motion was made to rescind the UAWD Steering Committee’s recent statement regarding UAW Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Mock, and the motion failed.

Three resolutions were passed by the membership as part of the consent agenda: Resolution for SC Co-Chair to Oversee UAWD Committees and Chapters, Constitutional Convention Preparation Committees, and Education to Continue Transforming the UAW. Two additional resolutions, UAWD Organizing Vision and Plan for Building a Local-level Rank-and-file Movement in the Manufacturing Sector and Bringing Greater Transparency to UAWD about Actions Taken at IEB Meetings, were passed.

Thank you to all members who participated in our first quarterly Membership Meeting of 2024! UAWD’s next quarterly membership meeting will be held in June 2024.
